The Sons of Italy Foundation (SIF) is the philanthropic arm of the Order Sons of Italy in America, the oldest and largest organization for men and women of Italian heritage in the United States.[1] The National Education & Leadership Awards (NELA) Gala is the SIF's most important fund-raising and public affairs event and also highlights the foundation's commitment to educational excellence, leadership and the betterment of society.[2] For the 2003 NELA Gala, Scecon provided the visual backdrop and interior scenic elements to compliment the incomparable National Building Museum in the heart of the District of Columbia. Guests were treated to a special performance by entertainer Tony Bennett. Scecon designed, fabricated and installed the visual elements that transformed the National Building Museum into a recreation of the famous Piazza Navona in Italy, complete with faux fountains and statues, a dozen large scale painted frescoes, a 30 foot tall obelisk, soft fabric elements to light and "enclose" the event, staging and all stage elements. |
