Georgetown University is a Jesuit private university located in Georgetown, Washington, D.C. Father John Carroll founded the school in 1789, though its roots extend back to 1634. Georgetown is the oldest Roman Catholic university in the United States, and its religious heritage is used to define the institution.[1]
The new podium was designed in the architectural style of Gaston Hall, where it will replace the current podium. The podium features an integrated 17" computer screen, while leaving ample room for notes and other papers. A shelf below the screen hides up to 4 glasses of water for individual speakers. Built into the base of the podium is a fold-out step, for speakers of shorter stature. The podium features presidential style microphones and is electrically wired for additional devices and computers. The front of the podium displays the Georgetown University seal, but can easily be replaced by alternate seals or an empty wood panel.
The podium has been used for lectures and debates, featuring speakers such as Jane Goodall, The Right Honorable Tony Blair, His Excellency Kjell Magne Bondevik, Tavis Smiley, and others.
