The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in Washington, DC decided to update the capabilities and presentation of their broadcast studios and sets. Scecon was called in by Tess Wald Productions to design, engineer and install the multi-use sets for HUD Secretary interviews as well as other informational and training uses. Scecon developed maximum flexibility in both reconfigurable set pieces and in control systems for interactive touch screen components.
The primary set in the HUD 10th floor studio uses every available inch of the studio space with a circular ceiling structure and lighting ring mirrored on the floor. Internally lighted column elements provide options for color and intensity changes, which give the Secretary of HUD a striking setting for his many media interviews and addresses.
CEO Brian Scott explains, “The limited space of the HUD studio presented difficulties that included perceived set depth and an overall visual flow of lines. Our circular layout was an approach that gave the shorter camera lenses something to follow and great wide shots. Additionally, the use of soft and translucent layers on the perimeter gave the set an open feeling. Everyone seemed quite pleased with the result.”
